Greenway trail system will soon be completeThe very first trail system of Greenway is already worked on by crews of Alcoa. The trail system is located on the western part of 129 Bypass of the United States.

The trail system is being built and will be completed by Alcoa, Maryville and Blount County. It is an elucidated pedestrian bridge over the Bypass southern part of Alcoa Municipal Building. That bridge unlocked the area of that city up until the Greenway Trail system’s main trail.

Jim Trusty, the Alcoa Street Services Supervisor revealed that the estimated cost of the trail will amount up to $500,000 and the target date in completing a 1.1-mile trail is on August 5. Further, he expressed that their plans are keep on changing, but as of the moment, it will most probably be completed by the targeted date. The project has began last November 2010.

Alcoa is paying twenty percent of the project cost and the Federal Highway Administration is also paying eighty percent of the total cost by means of an enhancement grant.

Trusty emphasized that the Greenway trail system is one of Alcoa’s biggest projects which is done in-house.

The trail is projected to start from Bypass’ pedestrian bridge to Louisville Road and will end at Green Meadow United Methodist Church and Andover Subdivision. Some parts of the trail have been completed, and this includes some sections along Louisville Road and the connection to St. Ives Subdivision.
